He's leaving.

I'm leaving too.

Tennis ngan Ishae

On Sunday nite, i played tennis with Ishae and betcha..... he's damn good. Setakat Ejay tuh, mmg sayur kangkung masak belacan lerrr...

We played 3 matches and i lost 2 of them... flat.

The 3rd set, i was leading 5-3 but had to abandon it due to time constraint.

Kitorang tak sempat nak lepak2 minum air sbb Ishae terpaksa drive balik jauh ke Kuala Selangor and time pon dah lebih kurang 1030pm masa tuh.

Note : Upiq masih pelik camne Ishae boleh tere ngan sekelip sedangkan Ejay dulu2 main cam siot despite Roky, Steven, Seok Ahr etc yg train dia. Cuma sejak dia main ngan Pak Ya dan Younicky nih baru larr ader improvement. Dorang nih spesies yg sama kot. Spesies pelik dan degil.

I CAN - Team Hoyt

Team Hoyt is father and son quest of the Ironman event in Hawaii. 3.8km(swim), 180km (cycling)and 42km (run). The father did this for the love of his handicapped son.

The video may take some time but worth every second of it.

Truely inspirational.

Just the right tonic i needed right now.

I CAN.

Glimpse of the future

He was screaming his lungs out when he saw me playing, distracting my partner and the opponent. Infact, everybody was annoyed even those who were on the bench.

Actually, he wanted a piece of the action.

"Nak main TENISSSSS...!!!!!"

Suddenly, he went from totally beserk to as quiet as a mouse after i passed him the ball.

.....and started whacking the ball. It was double handed forehand, if you havent noticed.

Was it a coincidence or the blood runs in the family?

It was really about our kids nowadays and he made me think about the future.

Trying to tri

I dunno what have i done but i have just registered for the up and coming A'famosa Triathlon event happening this weekend at the A'famosa Resort Melaka.

Triathlon is a sport where an athlete has to complete three different disciplines -swim, bike and run (SBR) at one go. It is a type of endurance sport. It's not an easy sport. One has to have some level of physical and mental fitness/endurance to complete the distance. I have never done the three disciplines at one go but i have completed at least two of them at any one time in my weight loss training sessions.

For the A'famosa event, there will be two categories namely Sprint or Olympic Distance (OD) events.

Sprint event is where the participant will do 400m (swim), 15km (cycling), 2km (run) while the OD event the athlete has to complete 1.5km (swim), 40km (cycling), 10km (run).

I have entered the Sprint event but my mates are asking me to do the OD event.

A year ago, i would never imagined i'l be signing up for such an event but this year i felt a bit different. I hope i have the mental capacity to take me through this challenge. Breaking another mental block, i will. It is a personal challenge and the only person that i will be competing with is me. The only race that is running in my mind now is racing against myself.

Believe it or not, im trying triathlon.

Kuantan Pix

Some pix from my Kuantan trip.. Enjoy...

Eyes on the ball. Alamak, saiz betis macam rugby player lar.

Fresh seafood at Tanjung Api. We got there quite late already, thus, most of the fish stock were almost finished.

Tanjung Api fishermen village.

Before we left Kuantan, stopped at a roadside stall for lunch. Marvellous collection of authentic Kuantan delicacies and kuihs.

We ate 2 fried kembong, 4 sticks of deep fried prawns (5 prawns per stick). Very very fresh.

Nasi dagang and tuna with gravy. Notice the white rice compared to coloured rice in the Kelantanese version.

Laksam or laksae. Thick-rolled but flat pasta rice goes with thick coconut fish gravy, a tinge of belacan/fish paste, veggie condiments and sambal. The gravy is not as thick as the Kelantanese version but rich enough for a savoury delight.

Basket full of keropok lekor/fish fritters.

4 sticks of sata ikan. 1 stick has got 4 satas.

Kuih - lepat ubi, pulut dakap (inti ikan?), peria (the pink colour) and akok (yes, akok)

You can get all the above and many more at this humble but famous 'Mok Naa' stall. It is located on the right side of the road, about 1.5km from the bridge heading towards Tanjung Lumpur. You'll see a Petronas nearby there. Highly recommended. Price is very reasonable. I paid RM52 for the above plus 4 glasses of fresh orange juices, teh o ais, ABC and RM15 of tapau sata ikan. cool, huh?

Make sure you get there before 4pm or else makan asap jelah.

They make the keropok lekor at the stall.

.....and fry them immediately. the one on the right was the fried prawns on sticks.

If you are in Kuantan, be sure to drop by at Mok Naa stall.

Arckk...

Hari nih, bini aku kuar jogging jam 630 pagi.

Aku plak duk umah, siapkan breakfast dan kitorang breakfast sesama.

Apa dah jadi?

Quick break

Went to Kuantan for a quick family break.

We used the new highway direct to Kuantan from Gombak. Took us slightly more than two hours to get there. Unfortunately, it was raining heavily, all the way until Gambang.

Managed to go to Teluk Cempedak albeit the rain, thus, no beach activity for the kid. We went to see wild monkeys at the adjacent forest instead. Kid was thrilled.

Later, we had dinner with wifey's friend at Anjung. Nothing special. Tomyam and stuffs. Usual suspect. Keat was right. Dinner in Kuantan are Thai-styled cooking, everywhere.

The next day, i went to play tennis while wifey went jalan2 with her friend.

I played two matches. Lost one, won one. I finished the 2nd match at almost noon when the sun was shining directly over my head. Panas giler. Wifey went to shop some fresh seafood at Tanjung Api, where the fisherman bring their daily produce to the shore. Tenggiri, Jenahak, Sotong, Udang, Lala etc were really really freash. Still slimey and no fishy smell at all. That's how fresh it was. Cant wait to get home to grill and steam them.

The discovery of the trip was when we had lunch before we left Kuantan. Authentic Kuantan food. It's a road side stall called "Mok Na". I will blog about it more once i get the pix.

Hisham Isa aka Ishae

As promised, a couple of photo from the tennis tourney held at Country Heights, Kajang.

Long lost friend found and reunited at the court.
Semi-indoor court. Rebound Ace surface.

Ishae and me.

Kuantan

I am going for a weekend break to Kuantan tomorrow and playing a match of friendly tennis with the tennis gang over there the day after. We will be playing at the MPK tennis courts.

As i am not familiar with the town, can anybody suggest to me what to look for, where to go, must eat food, where to take the kid, must-buy items for ole2 etc etc.

I will definitely look for sata ikan and keropoks but other than that, what, huh?

May Day

Yesterday was May Day and a nice mid-week break for everyone in the workforce.

Woke up around 6am, had oatmeal + fruit breakfast, kissed my lil boy and off i went mentally prepared for a tennis tourney today. I still felt a tinge of the annoying nasal block. Hopefully, it will disappear as the day rolled on.

The tourney was organized by friends and for friends. Nothing official or formal about it. We, the Kajang tennis circle had invited our Kuala Selangor tennis friends to participate in this self-organised tennis doubles event. We'd collected RM50 each as entrance fee and we provided free-flow food & drinks (including isotonic drinks), medals and cash rewards to the winner.

12 pairs had participated divided into 3 groups and group winner will advance to the semis. Format of play was pro-set and all matches will have to be completed in the same day. The standard of players were quite even except for one or two providing a good match play for everyone.

After long hiatus from competing in a tennis tourney, i felt quite excited and adrenalin was gushing out of the gland. I played three matches in total. The atmosphere was great which brought back good olde memories. Things like the pressure to make a point, getting an ace, setting up 3rd/5th ball winner, poaching across the net, inside out forehand, slamming the overhead, drop/angled volley, flat serve, clawing back from 0-40 to deuce, pumping the fist celebrating a down the line winner etc were some of the highlights. I liked it. I really like it. I felt young again.

Anyway, i managed to enter semifinals and lost it in a 7-7, tiebreaker (7-4). Tiebreaker, yeah, it couldn't been any better than playing a tie-breaker, soaking the pressure that came with it. I loved it.

However, the brightest highlight of the day was when i'd found yet another long lost friend. Former Hilton stayer. Dia buat Pendidikan dulu. Math genius. Played softball for the USM team. Kelantanese.

Yes, guys - i found Hisham a.k.a. Ishae. He played tennis..!!! He played it good too. Kalau setakat Ejay, Nilki or Fassex mmg dia bleh pukul sesayur jer. I was very impressed. He was still like his old-self, constant smiling, quiet and unassuming. He managed to enter semi-finals too but he played in the other half. We'd wished that we would meet and played together but takde rezeki lar..

We had taken a photo together and im not trying to get the photo from another tennis friend. Once i get it, i will post it here.

Btw, Ishae is now living in Kuala Selangor and have been there since the day he graduated from USM. Married with three kids. He missed all of you and was eager to meet all of us at our next get-together cum teh-tarik session. Wahlau....

Ishae's contacts :
Tel no : 013-3085146... pls give him a call and welcome him back to our fold.
email : hisyamisa@gmail.com

Forty love..!! Game, set and match.
