Yesterday was May Day and a nice mid-week break for everyone in the workforce.
Woke up around 6am, had oatmeal + fruit breakfast, kissed my lil boy and off i went mentally prepared for a tennis tourney today. I still felt a tinge of the annoying nasal block. Hopefully, it will disappear as the day rolled on.
The tourney was organized by friends and for friends. Nothing official or formal about it. We, the Kajang tennis circle had invited our Kuala Selangor tennis friends to participate in this self-organised tennis doubles event. We'd collected RM50 each as entrance fee and we provided free-flow food & drinks (including isotonic drinks), medals and cash rewards to the winner.
12 pairs had participated divided into 3 groups and group winner will advance to the semis. Format of play was pro-set and all matches will have to be completed in the same day. The standard of players were quite even except for one or two providing a good match play for everyone.
After long hiatus from competing in a tennis tourney, i felt quite excited and adrenalin was gushing out of the gland. I played three matches in total. The atmosphere was great which brought back good olde memories. Things like the pressure to make a point, getting an ace, setting up 3rd/5th ball winner, poaching across the net, inside out forehand, slamming the overhead, drop/angled volley, flat serve, clawing back from 0-40 to deuce, pumping the fist celebrating a down the line winner etc were some of the highlights. I liked it. I really like it. I felt young again.
Anyway, i managed to enter semifinals and lost it in a 7-7, tiebreaker (7-4). Tiebreaker, yeah, it couldn't been any better than playing a tie-breaker, soaking the pressure that came with it. I loved it.
However, the brightest highlight of the day was when i'd found yet another long lost friend. Former Hilton stayer. Dia buat Pendidikan dulu. Math genius. Played softball for the USM team. Kelantanese.
Yes, guys - i found Hisham a.k.a. Ishae. He played tennis..!!! He played it good too. Kalau setakat Ejay, Nilki or Fassex mmg dia bleh pukul sesayur jer. I was very impressed. He was still like his old-self, constant smiling, quiet and unassuming. He managed to enter semi-finals too but he played in the other half. We'd wished that we would meet and played together but takde rezeki lar..
We had taken a photo together and im not trying to get the photo from another tennis friend. Once i get it, i will post it here.
Btw, Ishae is now living in Kuala Selangor and have been there since the day he graduated from USM. Married with three kids. He missed all of you and was eager to meet all of us at our next get-together cum teh-tarik session. Wahlau....
