Hockey nite...

That's the photo of my hockey stick, a thoughful present from wifey on m 1st birthday as her husband. I've got three hockey sticks a TK, Vijayanti and Malik but this one is the only non-wooden in my collections. The Vijayanti and Malik are in quite bad condition thus, i had been using this TK hockey stick for quite awhile already.
Like many other modern hockey sticks, it's made of composite instead of wood like in those days. I remembered using my wooden Grays hockey stick while playing hockey in USM with the likes of Atul Kumar, Eric Lee, Vijayaraj etc and in one of the inter-desa tourney, i got scolded by Atul in front of many students who came to support us (yeah, you were one of them, aiie... betcha laughing your a** off now). I like the wooden rather than the composite hockey stick but you can hardly find any of it nowadays unless you are willing to fork out a fortune for a good one or you have to go to Pakistan to get a cheap one. Either/or the total cost would be expensive for a social hockey player like me.
Anyway, I wonder how did wifey knew how to buy a hockey stick when she's not into the sport all. Thanks beb, for being such an understanding partner and for being supportive of my sporting activities. Lurv u...

Every Friday nite or as often as possible, i get the chance to play hockey with my old school mates. We have played at almost all the hockey stadiums in KL such as Stadium Tun Razak, Pantai Stadium (KLHA), Kementerian Pendidikan stadium (in Pantai too..) and Bukit Jalil. In the last few months we've been playing mostly at Bukit Jalil pitch 2 (not the main arena) because normally people like us who plays kampong-style hockey are not allowed to use the main arena. However, last friday there was a surprise when the booking officer upgraded us to the main pitch (its because the national team were in India playing Asia Cup tourney). Whoaaaa....

I have been to the main arena for many many times already, as an avid fan and supporter of Malaysia hockey scene right from Commonwealth Games to Word Cup to Six-Nations Challenge to Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and even the local leagues and other internationl friendlies but having said that, i have never played on it before.

However, seeing the pitch from far and playing on it are two different things altogether. It is definitely the best hockey pitch i've ever played on and just by hitting and trapping the balls, the thudding sound will send shivers to your spine. This stadium is equivalent to the Bernabeu or Old Trafford or Delle Alpi in football and i could just stand quietly admiring the aura that surrounds the neat green turf and appreciate its history.

We played a good two hours of kampung-style hockey and went back satisfied drenched in sweat. We then lepak at mamak for a drink before heading home.

To all of you who'd like to play hockey or to get a decent amount of exercise (oh well yes, you will sweat....), please come down to our hockey session at your own will irregardless of your hockey skills or past expereinces. Believe me that a lot of us are out of shape and many others who are playing with us have never touched a hockey stick before. so, Padil, ada berani? rumah lu seberang jalan jerrr...

Ciao....
