Penang CNY 2008 - Sup Hameed & Chow Rasta

My Penang CNY 08 rendezvous continued with a night out with old buddy Adi Musnizam. He picked me up at the hotel around 11pm and we whizzed to Georgetown using the new highway. It's very fast unlike in the past where we had to negotiate the many twists and turns pothole ridden roads and numerous traffic lights just to get to the city. It took us slightly above 5 mins to travel from Sg Dua to in the middle of the city.

We went to Sup Hameed near Hotel Malaysia. From a humble single stall operator, Sup Hameed has a restaurant and a pavement of 5 tents to cater his many customers every night. The area is so 'happening' now. Ramai giler orang.... semua makan sup... haha... Look at the menu in the pix and seee whether you guys have tried all of them before. The favourite picks are still on list... woohooo....It maybe disgusting to some but i had sup peliaq lembu a.k.a. sup torpedo (cow's penis). Apparently, it's a tonic for men and can make it strong like a bull whenever you use the same night. It's an aphrodiasiac for men, i was told. The texture is like rubber with spicy and fat laden soup. The soup is quite thick and you can really taste the different spices which goes into it.
Some other internal organs. People are crazy for these weird looking meat.

The next day, i went to the 2nd hand bookshop on the upper floor of Chow Rasta market. Thousands and thousands of used books selling a fraction of its normal price. There are a lot of little treasures here, if you can spend more time scruyying through the book shelves. Teh shopowner will recommend to you some of the classics and rare masterpiece, some slightly eaten by insects but if you are a book collector, this is definitely the place for you. Next time you are in Penang, make sure you take your family and friends to this place. They'll love it.

Finally, it's almost not complete if you go to Penang and not stopping-by at the Chow Rasta wholesale market. It's normally my last stop before i leave Penang and to buy some souvenirs or buah tangan for people i cared so much at home.
