Selamat Tahun Baru, 2008..!!!

To all PW clan,

SELAMAT TAHUN BARU 2008..!!

Semoga 2008 menjadi tahun yang best..!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR...!!

Never felt so good

Last Thursday, I went for my usual 5.5k run and felt weird. Body was strangely weak, legs were heavy and joint pains were creeping in. I was already struggling in the first 2km but I presevered. Felt like calling wifey for SOS and rescue me by the road side. After a few more minutes, things didnt improved much but i pushed to the limit and finished the run in sub-42mins. It turned out to be a not-so-good decision to push it to the limit - my body system brokedown.

I was constantly advised by my training buddies to always listen to your body and listening to it, i did. I went to the Dr on Fri after work (as body temperature was rising) and the Dr confirmed that i had tonsilitis which was causing the fever, flu, cough and joint pains. Dr gave some anti-biotics and lotsa rest as presrciptions. And rest, i did. No training on Friday and Saturday. Totally resting my tired body.

However, training buddy called late Saturday asking me to join him on his long run the next day. Menu : Appox 22km. I pondered and didn't give him any affirmative answer. Told him, "Bring the helmet and pump. i'l try to make it."

On the very last Sunday of 2007, i woke up late. 440am.

I was thinking, "I will not be able to join him larr, too late oredi and my body is still not fully recovered.". It is Sunday. It is suppose to be a resting day anyway. Tucking in bed and feeling lazy is normal.

I went to the toilet, did my business, sat quietly on the toilet bowl and suddenly my unconscious mind whispered to me. "The whole journey is about quitting. Not-quitting is the challenge." It's mind over matter.

Then, everything was a history.

Took a quick shower, packed my stuff, bananas, apple, water, HRM etc and off i went.
That was the actual time on my car when i left my house.... and it's am, okay. Yeah, no kidding. You saw it right. It's 513am. My buddies - they are Ironman trainees (OP Shazly and OP Stupe - former RMC boys too) called earlier and went ahead with the run at 500am and i told them to go ahead - i'l catch up later. Reached Bukit Aman car park, took out the bike and off me go. I got lost in trailing of my buddies cos they went to a different route. Thus, I had to cycle alone in darkness. Literally, alone. Except for one or two mutant runners, i was the only one on the road at that particular time. I reached our normal re-filling station (in hartamas) and called them to check their whereabouts. True enough they said that they went to another route. Shaiittt..!! We missed each other altogether.

I had to turn back and cycled to the car park again. On the way back, there were more runners on the road. I was the only one on a bicycle. Felt like a whimp but who cares. I dont care anymore. Had enough of nasty comments in the past when i started this journey. Well, at least im doing something rather than nothing. When people are still in bed dreaming, i am on the road - cycling and pumping my heart to bursting level. Call me crazy or mutant... but... it was... crazy and only mutants do this kind of things.

Got back to the carpark and met my buddies. Never felt any better. Though the coughing was still there but the early morning exercise expelled lotsa toxins along the way too.

Distance : Approx. 22km

Time : 1hr 8 mins

Calorie burned : 2536

Major improvement in timing and fitness.

Left the carpark when the sun started to greet us. Since it was still early we decided to replenish the energy with a hearty delicious breakfast.

We went to the famous Tanglin Nasi Lemak place. We were their first customers. Everything was fresh, warm and expensive..!!

Burppp... sedap.

I bought a packet for wifey and son at home. Sent the food and off me went again to the tennis court. I was again pushing myself to the limit to see how i play on a set of tired legs. Played tennis for awhile and i guessed i'm at my best fitness level since i left RMC. Went back home, tired but satisfied.

Finished of the day with a trip to my in-laws kampung and my mom's place. What a fruitful last Sunday of 2007.

Siapa nih?

I went to my cousin's wedding in Bangi and out of no where i saw these two people. He looked at me and i looked at him when he arrived at the kenduri tent. I knew he was trying to recall who i am. He took his food, sat and looked at me again. I gestured, he gestured back. He remembered me by then.

After makan, we chatted and updated each other on PW latest developments.

For fun sake, can you remember their names?

Pix 1 : Clue - Ketua Komunis Melaya

Discovery Eddie

Eddie, our grunge poser cum top academician is leaving for Antartica on 29/12/2007, Saturday.

He will be conducting a research on the movement of penguins and its population on the icey cold continent with a bunch of researchers for the next three months.

He hasn't requested for a TTS yet or anything else as a farewell celebration but i believe he is busy preparing himself to explore a place where not many people in the world has landed before.

I havent heard from him much but whateva it is, i wish you good luck and make sure you come back in one piece with lotsa stories to tell us.

Please call him at 019-3140704 and give him some good words of encouragement. Jangan lupa mintak ampun dan maaf gak. 0-0, ek Eddie?

Damn, I'm proud of you.

Aiie is in town

Aiie is back in Malaysia for holidays.

He is in Penang and will be back to KL on 31/1/2007.

He has requested for a get-together session on New Year's Day.

Everyone is invited to this event which the venue, time and theme yet to be finalised.

A few notables questions :

Does any PW clan would like to host the get-together thingy?

Or shall we gather and meet-up at a place suitable for families and kids?

Or shall we just congregate at a TTS place convenient to everyone?

I need some suggestions and volunteers to organize the event...

Are you in?

Sweaty gloomy morning

Loaned out my car to dad and took LRT to work. Noticed the emptiness of the Star LRT coach. I'm not sure whether i'm too early (it was around 715am) or people are still on holidays.
Newspapers, tabloids and zines sold on the street near Masjid Jamek station.

Breakfast frenzy. Amazing array of food choices everywhere near the station. I bought a warm unsweetened soy milk as my morning protein intake.

KLites mannerism at its best. People queueing at the Putra LRT station. KL drivers should take a leaf from these people and emulate such a good trait.

Putra LRT packed like sardines. People squashed and squeezed right to the brim.

Reached KLCC around 750am. Too early. I decided to do a light cardio, brisk walking around the KLCC park. Got a good dose of endorphin releasing glycogen expenditure workout. Easy but very effective. Do yo know that working out/exercising on an empty stomach early in the morning will increase your metabolism rate and keep calorie burning activities at an above average intensity all day long? I dunno how to explain it in words but it has got something to do with utilising the stored energy from your last meal the night before and burn it to the very last bit before you replenish it with a good and hearty breakfast.

Distance : 2.3km

Time : 28:38

Calorie burned : 437 kcal

Now, let's go to work.

His first LRT ride and enjoyed himself in front of many bemusedeyes. Ishhh... tak bleh dok diam langsung... geram tul

Masjid Jamek pix taken from the station. The old and new in a symbiotic display of cohesion that shaped KL's identity.

The legendary Klang River. Funnily, i have never seen in any other than the teh tarik colour. Bila larrr gamaknyer sungai nih nak jadik jernih balik. I wish people would have taken care of the environment better and make efforts to educate the younger generations to protect it.

Merry Christmas...!!!

To PW clan, friends, families and many others...

Selamat menyambut hari natal..

Peaceful ritual

There were many volunteers who had turned up to lend a hand in the Qurban do. Kids were the happiest lot as they get first-hand experience by being close to the real action. It's good to expose them from young and feed their curiosity with real-life practical examples.

One of the lucky eight cows that were gonna be slaughtered later. Islam teachings said that it's a dream for every cow to leave the world by way of Qurban. They will be fed with plain water moments before they were slaughtered.
A hole must be digged under the cattle throat's to cup the blood soon after it was slaughtered fpr hygienic reasons. Banana leaf is used to cover the blood spurt during the slithering process.
Volunteers deskinning the carcass.

The deskinning is a team effort which foster good working relationship and promote camaraderie amongst community members.

The inner organs were being detached from its gut.

Fresh meat ready for the butcher to cut into smaller pieces and distributed to the unfortunates.

Midnite crawl

it was around 11pm, on the eve of Eid Adha, i was on the way back from KLIA to Cheras on the PLUS hiway and saw the traffic crawled at almost snail pace heading south bound.

The traffic jam started from Kajang interchange until gods know where.

Sometimes, sib baik wa takde kampung jauh2. Eventhough beraya kat bandar tak semeriah seperti beraya dikampung but a quiet KL city is something i look forward to everytime a festive season comes home.

Kopi

DID YOU KNOW...

The half-life of caffeine in your body is about 6 hours. This means that if you consume a big cup of coffee with 200 mg of caffeine in it at 4:00 PM to get you through the rest of the work day, by 10:00 PM you will still have about 100 mg of caffeine in your system. You may be able to fall asleep, but your body will miss out on the substantial benefits of deep sleep. That deficit adds up fast. The next day you may need caffeine to be more alert in the morning, the following day you might need it to help get you out of bed. The pattern continues day after day.

Once you get in the cycle, it's a challenge to stop using it - it became an addiction. From thereon, if you try stopping taking caffeine, you will get very tired and depressed and you get a terrible, splitting headache as blood vessels in your brain dilate. This is most likely why 90% of Americans consume caffeine on a daily basis and Asians are catching up too, with gourmet coffee drinking is becoming a lifestyle need especially for the urbanites. I used to drink gourmet coffee - after lunch and after work frequently. I think it's more of peer pressure rather than being a true coffee drinker. In the morning, tea lady will serve me one big mug of Nescafe susu 'kaw' too. I am not saying that coffee is bad but as any other things in life, doing it a bit too much can be too much already. However, a recent lifestyle change has given me new perception on consuming coffee. It's no more in my system. Not even a drip. Even teh tarik is out of my listing already.

The benefits of quitting caffeine may include:
* Decreased risk of hypertension
* Decreased tooth decay (and a whiter smile)
* Stronger bones
* Increased libido or sexual performance

Want to break the cycle? This week, when you make your coffee, use 3/4 regular and 1/4 decaf. Next week, use 1/2 and 1/2. The following week, use 1/4 regular and 3/4 decaf. By this time next month, you will have switched completely to decaf.

Clash of The Titans

Paid this complimentary tix at the black market for less than RM70. Actual price was RM253. Cheapest retailed tix was RM83. Damn good deal, i got. Some say it's not right but rather than seeing the tix went to some Datuks or Datins or their families/relatives/friends who doesn't have a clue about tennis for free, at least i get to see the match with a genuine tix and made some so-called not-so-fortunate people a lil' bit richer on the same night.

I don't really support this but it's the same with fake DVD issue. Why would i buy an original DVD at an out-of-my-budget and senseless price when i can get the almost similar quality with a fraction of the price. As much as i respect the tremendous effort put in by the organisers to bring the stars to Malaysia for the fans.... but with the ticket pricing structure, it will deprive the real tennis fans who can't afford (like me and many others) to come and enjoy once-in-a-lifetime opportunity watching their idols playing the sport they loved most. It's a business game, you see.

Anyway, my seat was quite near to the whole action. I didn't missed a thang..!! Excited giler beb. The night started with some Malaysia styled musical funfare and followed by artiste performances. Apesal larrr organisers pilih Ruffedge for the opening act (Gegar... Gegar, Gegar, Gegar...). adushh... spoiler betul.

Then, Rafa and Gasquet came in. The crowd roared. I was standing already. Excited wehhh. Memang best. They played to a quite entertaining competitive match, some fabulous shots and i was beholded by the whole experience. In the end, Rafa won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Some of the fans with VAMOS RAFA..!!! banner....

Nadal barechested (ejay jgn tgk lamer2). Can see his bulging biceps from here.

Prize giving and national anthem. There were about 8,000 fans. Najib wa the guest of honour. The stadium was 3/4 full. (i guessed more complimentary tickets are being thrown out or just sitting in somebody's office).

Nadal was patient enough to sign loads of autograph. I was far from getting his signature but near enough to take this pix.

Ader iras2 tak?

(wa cilok banner tuh. Saper nak, dtg umah)

On the way back, went for supper at the popular nasi lemak bungkus daun pisang panas at Jalan Narayanan, 223, PJ. There's no ikan bilis, no sambal cuttlefish, packed is small portion - basically, nothing special about it but the place is packed with people. I wonder why and i dunno when it was started but the place was packed like since the days i used to frequent it at least 15 years back during the heydays of Selangor and local football scene at its peak.

Main dan makan

Last Sunday, i went to wifey's office open day. The event was held in Putrajaya. I was there at 730am together with my son. I love waking up early on Sunday morning and go for an outdoor activity. Any activity will do for me except jemur kain, lap tingkap and mop lantai dan sewaktu dengannya.... haha.. mujur ader bini rajin.

The event was held behind the majestic Palace of Justice. Brand spanking new stadium. Wifey was the emcee for the whole event (Azalina Othman in the making.. haha..!).

The football field is splendid quality. Nicer than Bkt Jalil or Shah Alam. Manchester United should play here. I let my son roam and sweat. Chasing him around is a good exercise too. Wifey played volleyball against the Minister's team.

Later, belum sempat penat lelah habis, we went to Bukit Beruang, Melaka to an open house do by my mom-in-laws maid, Aunty Leela. She's been working with them for at least 25 years! Amazing. She always takes care of me very well whenever i am in my in-laws house. Sometimes i feel blessed to have her around us. She's like a family member to us.

I forgot what it's called but taste like fried fish cake.

Homemade Thosai - a must have at Deepavali's open house....

...goes very well with chicken curry

......dhall

..... and lamb massala.

Iddeley (is the spelling rite?)

Makan time. Sori beb, wa lapar giler.... dari pagi tak makan nih....

Sedap....
